Random Pack Pulls Recap

Just wanted to post an update on a few cards that I've pulled from packs recently - I've been picking up packs here and there and have opened a couple blasters.  Sometimes lately I find myself in a sea of regret after buying packs because I think about how I could have put the money towards another card in my Ryane Clowe PC - especially with I don't land anything.  It's all - in the cards I suppose, pun intended, har har har.

I've occasionally picked up a couple 2011-12 Panini Certified at the local hobby store hoping to pull something five star to use as trade bait or if I got really lucky, a PC hit.  This Bobrovsky is just numbered /5 but wasn't exactly what I was looking for.

2010-11 Panini All Goalies

I've seen the 2010-11 Panini All Goalies box several times around the block within the past year; I've always liked the look of them and while at Wal-Mart today, after much inner debate, I figured I'd pick up a box/set.  I've been sending up TTMs again recently and figured even if I don't pull anything hit worthy, they would still make great cards to possibly have signed.

Each box contains the entire 100 card set, 5 "Up Close" parallels and 1 memorabilia card.

2005-06 NHL Replay Cards

One of the Zellers locations in my area are on the verge of shutting their doors for good and so forth are having a clearence sale; me and my fiance were driving around the city doing some thrifting a few days ago and decided to drop in and pay a visit, maybe they would have something on sale that would fixate our interests.

As per any usual Zellers visit, I made a bee-line to the card section only to find that it was pretty much picked apart down to the bare bones; UFC, the Simpsons and Magic - a few boxes of Puck Attax remained unscaved but that was about it when it came to hockey.

But just when I was about to give up hope in uncovering at least one pack of something or another; underneath the shiny unicorn figurines and puppy dog keychains, I dug this up...

I've never seen or even heard of these NHL Replay Cards before, just great!  I love finding random oddball hockey shit.  At a loonie I wasn't exactly going to go broke, how could I go wrong - the sheer pleasure of opening up and finding out just what exactly these cards were all about was worth it in my opinion.

I did a little research on these cards and it appears they were produced by Quebec-based Softmotion, a designer and printer of 3-D lenticular images.  There are 36 cards in Series 1 which are licensed by the NHL and NHLPA.  Softmotion were able to weave their way around Upper Decks exclusive rights in the hockey card industry during the era due to the unstandard size (3x4) of the cards they released.

Markus Naslund of the Vancouver Canucks on the breakaway; not a bad player to haul.  The card has two photos featured on the front depending on which way you tilt it.  You can slightly see the other photo in the above scan; but for a much clearer view, it's the first picture on the left side of the wrapper.  Not sure if the photos featured on the front of the wrapper indicate the card inside or if it was just a coincidence.

Not much to write home about in regards to the back of the card.  The write-up is game dated in accordance to the picture on the front of the card, 2004 - didn't collect during that period, but geez way to make me feel old.  Anyway card is numbered 31 out of 36.

Blueprints were in the works for a secnd series but never did get off the ground.

2011-12 Panini Certified Recap

After pulling the Stamkos #d/5 several days ago, I  opted to pick up several more packs of 2011-12 Panini Certified.  I came out of it with a few nice cards to add to my collection.

Tyler Seguin "Fabrics Of The Game Prime" #14 07/25 - Here's my favorite pull from the break, a Tyler Seguin patch featuring three colors; what appears to be a piece of his jersey number or name, maybe neither - I can't really tell to be honest.  On the downside the piece is considerably small, there's so much empty space on the card!

 

Ales Hemsky "Fabrics Of The Game Prime" #57 03/10 - The consistant pulls of Oiler players won't stop coming, I won't complain, I'll take it - although I wouldn't list Hemsky in my top 3 Oilers I'd like to see spotlighted on this card above.  Anyway two colors on a jumbo piece, showing some stitching makes this a nice one.

Joe Nieuwendyk "Immortals" Mirror Red #170 13/25 - Nice three color piece from a recent inductee into the HOF.  Correct me if I'm wrong, this may very well not be a Mirror Red, for your information I am colorblind.

Dustin Byfuglien Mirror Blue Signature #112 18/99 - I really like the base of this card, Byfuglien sporting the retro Jets sweater and all.  It's too bad they didn't decide to keep them around, I really don't like the look of the new logo much.

Ben Holmstrom "Freshman Signatures" #175 - Haven't heard of this guy before but an on-card auto is always welcome.

I also pulled a few Mirror Blue cards which included a piece of fabric, all #d out of 99.  Okoposo is probably my favorite since it's a color other than the seemingly popular black and white swtahces.

2011-12 Panini Certified Hit Parade Break

I ripped a few packs of 2011-12 Panini Certified a few days past and added a few nice cards to my collection because of it.  I was stoked on the Sam Gagner and Cody Hodgson pulls from several days ago, but this break went beyond my expectations.

I want to start this break results post with my biggest hit; quite possibly the best card I've pulled since picking the hobby back up again eight months ago.

It's a Steven Stamkos "Fabrics Of The Game Prime" #134 numbered just 4/5 - the cards been cut out spotlighting his 45 goals scored during the 2010-11 season, underneath the cut-out is a layer of jersey.  Not too shabby, I have never pulled a card numbered so low before.

Here's a Daniel Sedin "Fabrics Of The Game" #143 numbered 15/25; featuring a nice sticker signature (I'm assuming).  Great!

Al Arbour "Certified Champions" #17 Gold Version numbered 10/25.  Second in wins and games coached in NHL history.

Brendon Nash "Freshman Signatures" #181 - Not familiar with this rookie, nice auto though.

Mikka Kiprusoff "Mirror Blue" Jersey Swatch #30 numbered 40/99.

Derek Stepan "Totally Silver" #150

Ilya Kovalchuk "Mirror Blue" #118 numbered 15/99

I also pulled a couple "Masked Marvels" cards.  Ondrej Pavelec #14 and Carey Price #3.

Overall it was one of the best breaks I've ever done, I've fallen in love with this product.  I have a few more packs to rip but I don't think this mojo will keep up.  We'll have to see!

2011-12 Panini Score Blaster Break

Picked up this blaster box of the latest Score set from Panini for just under $11 earlier today.  Panini has been bringing more and more to the table year after year with their annual low end set.  At 500 cards, the set won't be easy to complete - loaded with a variety of sub-sets and three parallels per card, it gets crazy.  But for a possible big bang at a low price, how can you not like it.

This year Brodeur is the face of the product; entering his final year of his contract - it's very well possible that this will be his final season of his record breaking career.

1997-98 Upper Deck Collector's Choice Box Break

I recently broke another box of this 1997-98 Upper Deck Collector's Choice; found it in the aisles of Wal-Mart marked with a discounted price tag.   It's always fun opening these boxes - even if it is considered pure wax-junk, the nostalgic value is worth the pocket change that I shelled out for it.

Besides I'm pretty close to finishing off the set and it's always a joy/bonus when you pull something other than a StarQuest single star card.  I wish I could find more of these boxes around town.

I decided to only post the base cards from the break that I needed for my set, along with the inserts that I pulled.  Check out some cards under the jump.

2010-11 Upper Deck Tin Break

I didn't even know it but I'm actually on the verge of completing this Series One set of 2010-11 Upper Deck.  I went and picked up another tin of these to break a few days ago; and yes, I'm still chasing those flagship Young Guns cards.

I scanned a few of my favorite cards from the break under the cut.  A few jersey pieces, Young Guns, Hockey Heroes and I also included my top eight favorite base pulls.

1997-98 Upper Deck Choice Hobby Box Break

I recorded this break yesterday as you can probably tell from the same clothes that I'm wearing and my battle cats in the background.

Picked up another box of 1997-98 Upper Deck Choice on the cheap ($8) that was floating around Wal-Mart ... I'm pretty close to filling out the set now so when I see a box of this wax junk around I'm pretty interested in the contents.

2009-10 Upper Deck Champ's Break

Hello all.  I've been working on a few bells and whistles for the blog, if you take a look to your right you'll see an example of an incomplete example of what I'm referring to.  I was getting somewhat tired of the massive amount of text links that hugged the sidebar and figured trying something that might be a little more visibly appealing.

Speaking of visibly appealing, I recently purchased a blaster of 2009-10 Upper Deck Champ's at a local flea market for a discounted price.  I love the look of these cards so much, so much that they rank pretty high up there on a my favorite card designs of all time list.

2011-12 Upper Deck Victory Box Break

By now I'm sure you're all familiar with the latest Upper Deck release of Victory.  I guess you can say I'm attempting to collect the complete 200 card base set, not entirely interested in the rookie sub-set although I wouldn't mind picking up the Cody Hodgson card.  Book value these cards may rack in as chump change but I find that the cards are fun and affordable.

The box brings us 11 packs, each pack containing 6 cards.  The rundown of the break is under the cut including all scans.

2009-10 Upper Deck Hockey Series 2 Box Break

Hey guys, I picked up a random box of 2009-10 Upper Deck Series 2 for 50% off earlier today.  12 packs included in the box, 5 cards per pack. 

Out of the 60 cards I pulled I'll post my top ten favorites from the break under the cut.  Not a lot of hits in these boxes and the photography on most of the base cards look pretty flat.

1998-99 Upper Deck Choice Double Box Break Part 2

Here's the second box of 98-99 Upper Deck Choice that I opened a couple weeks ago, still holding hope for a StarQuest gold parallel.  I've omitted scans of cards that I've already pulled from the last box break.

1998-99 Upper Deck Choice Double Box Break Part 1

Wal-Mart was practically giving away these boxes of 1998-99 Upper Deck Choice at $8 a piece.  So I grabbed two of them with hopes of possibly completing the set and  maybe even the insert sets such as the Mini-Bobble Heads cards that I anticipated pulling from singles when I was about twelve.

36 packs per box, 6 cards per pack.  StarQuest Blue are inserted 2:1, Green 1:7, Red 1:23 and Gold are numbered to 100.  I have yet to see a Gold StarQuest in my life.  Mini Bobbing Heads are 1:4.  Key rookies from the set are Martin St. Louis, Milan Hejduk, Sergey Gusev, Mark Parrish, Oleg Kvasha, Michal Handzus, Tomas Kaberle, and Matt Cooke.

1988-89 O-Pee-Chee Stickers Box Break

Hello all.  Today I bring you a box off 1988-89 O-Pee-Chee Yearbook Stickers.  The story goes, I originally thought I had purchased a box of 88-89 O-Pee-Chee cards with a chance of pulling Hull and Shanahan rookies at a very cheap price tag (too good to be true) but after some research I realized that I had actually bought these Panini-like stickers.  The original auction picture only showed the inside of the box with the wax packs which I was unfamiliar with.  Oh well.  You live, you learn.

Although it wasn't what I had hoped for, the stickers are a nice addition to my collection.  And I scored a bunch of various Gretzky, Lemieux and Hull stickers.

Championship Collection Trading Cards Mystery Box Break

I was very curious as to what these boxes held inside when I saw them lying in the card dump-in.  Had to pick one up and let's just say I paid a little more than I had expected when it was rung in at the checkout counter. 

The box promises 16 factory sealed packs and I was blessed by the hockey card gods to have received an extra pack.  Above in the photo is a sample of what was inside, read more to check out the rundown.

2010-11 Pinnacle Box Break

I haven't been to the card shop in some time, so a Zellers pick-up will have to suffice.  Here are the results of a recent box break of 2010-11 Pinnacle, 8 packs 10 cards per pack.

I really enjoy the action shots on these cards and the base set doesn't seem too impossible to complete (200 cards), aside from the Ice Breakers sub-set which is a total of 50 cards; 20 of which are autographed parallels.

2009-10 O-Pee-Chee

Quick rundown of a recent box break.  O-Pee-Chee 2009-10; and to start, I just wanna say that I think the box is some great looking eye candy.  Let's see if the insides are just as sweet.
