2010-11 Panini All Goalies

I've seen the 2010-11 Panini All Goalies box several times around the block within the past year; I've always liked the look of them and while at Wal-Mart today, after much inner debate, I figured I'd pick up a box/set.  I've been sending up TTMs again recently and figured even if I don't pull anything hit worthy, they would still make great cards to possibly have signed.

Each box contains the entire 100 card set, 5 "Up Close" parallels and 1 memorabilia card.

I'm way to lazy to post an actual update on a few new pickups; I'm feeling slightly bummed over the fact that my car broke down in the parking lot outside the mall earlier today leading to it having to be towed to the garage - fingers crossed whatever is wrong with it is still covered under warranty.  I also have to work the graveyard shift tonight, at the moment I'm ready to tuck myself into bed and I haven't even started my shift yet.

2011-12 Panini Certified Recap

After pulling the Stamkos #d/5 several days ago, I  opted to pick up several more packs of 2011-12 Panini Certified.  I came out of it with a few nice cards to add to my collection.

Tyler Seguin "Fabrics Of The Game Prime" #14 07/25 - Here's my favorite pull from the break, a Tyler Seguin patch featuring three colors; what appears to be a piece of his jersey number or name, maybe neither - I can't really tell to be honest.  On the downside the piece is considerably small, there's so much empty space on the card!

 

Ales Hemsky "Fabrics Of The Game Prime" #57 03/10 - The consistant pulls of Oiler players won't stop coming, I won't complain, I'll take it - although I wouldn't list Hemsky in my top 3 Oilers I'd like to see spotlighted on this card above.  Anyway two colors on a jumbo piece, showing some stitching makes this a nice one.

Joe Nieuwendyk "Immortals" Mirror Red #170 13/25 - Nice three color piece from a recent inductee into the HOF.  Correct me if I'm wrong, this may very well not be a Mirror Red, for your information I am colorblind.

Dustin Byfuglien Mirror Blue Signature #112 18/99 - I really like the base of this card, Byfuglien sporting the retro Jets sweater and all.  It's too bad they didn't decide to keep them around, I really don't like the look of the new logo much.

Ben Holmstrom "Freshman Signatures" #175 - Haven't heard of this guy before but an on-card auto is always welcome.

I also pulled a few Mirror Blue cards which included a piece of fabric, all #d out of 99.  Okoposo is probably my favorite since it's a color other than the seemingly popular black and white swtahces.

2011-12 Panini Certified Hit Parade Break

I ripped a few packs of 2011-12 Panini Certified a few days past and added a few nice cards to my collection because of it.  I was stoked on the Sam Gagner and Cody Hodgson pulls from several days ago, but this break went beyond my expectations.

I want to start this break results post with my biggest hit; quite possibly the best card I've pulled since picking the hobby back up again eight months ago.

It's a Steven Stamkos "Fabrics Of The Game Prime" #134 numbered just 4/5 - the cards been cut out spotlighting his 45 goals scored during the 2010-11 season, underneath the cut-out is a layer of jersey.  Not too shabby, I have never pulled a card numbered so low before.

Here's a Daniel Sedin "Fabrics Of The Game" #143 numbered 15/25; featuring a nice sticker signature (I'm assuming).  Great!

Al Arbour "Certified Champions" #17 Gold Version numbered 10/25.  Second in wins and games coached in NHL history.

Brendon Nash "Freshman Signatures" #181 - Not familiar with this rookie, nice auto though.

Mikka Kiprusoff "Mirror Blue" Jersey Swatch #30 numbered 40/99.

Derek Stepan "Totally Silver" #150

Ilya Kovalchuk "Mirror Blue" #118 numbered 15/99

I also pulled a couple "Masked Marvels" cards.  Ondrej Pavelec #14 and Carey Price #3.

Overall it was one of the best breaks I've ever done, I've fallen in love with this product.  I have a few more packs to rip but I don't think this mojo will keep up.  We'll have to see!

2011-12 Panini Certified Hockey Blaster Break

Decided to give myself a taste of the 2011-12 Panini Certified series earlier today; picked up a blaster box that included three packs, five cards per pack.
Let's kick it off with the 'hit' from the blaster...

A Sam Gagner #60 Mirror Red Dual Materials numbered 12/150.

I figured that this pull from the blaster was also scan worthy....

Cody Hodgson #7 Certified Potential - My first Hodgson card.  He has been enjoying a pretty solid season thus far.  I might have been a little happier to pull this card than the Gagner.

I went ahead and scanned the rest of the cards, jump the cut to check them out.

2011-12 Panini Pinnacle Break Pull

I've been picking up a few packs of 2011-12 cards here and there, mostly Upper Deck and Pinnacle - although the pack breaks have helped garner progress in the set collecting department, they haven't resulted in much "hit"-wise.
While out picking up a few things today I continued my sporatic pack breaking with several more packs of 2011-12 Upper Deck and Pinnacle.  Out of the Upper Deck, noteworthy would be the Colin Greening Young Guns #230 and a Canvas card of Patric Hornqvist #C49.

From the 2011-12 Pinnacle breaks I did manage to pull a card I thought was scan worthy:

Here's a 2011-12 Pinnacle Zenith "Yours Truly" Update #SA Sam Gagner on card auto.  Surprised would be the most accurate emotion to describe the feeling when I pulled this as I've given myself the unshakable impression there's a "never pull a decent card" cloud looming over my head.

Pinnacle, Donruss and Upper Deck Rundown

Picked up a bunch of packs of random cards in an attempt to knock some cards from the want-lists, aside from some base that I needed I also pulled a few inserts - nothing to write home about but enough to scan and post a blog about.
First, lets start with the two packs of 2010-11 Panini Pinnacle - didn't really put a dent into what I have left to complete the set as I only managed to pull two cards that I needed; # 110 Tomas Vanek and #234 Dana Tyrell Ice Breakers.  Although worthy of a scan would be this card:

Martin St. Louis + Steven Stamkos / Chemistry On Canvas #3 - Nice feel to these cards, literally.

2011-12 Panini Score Blaster Break

Picked up this blaster box of the latest Score set from Panini for just under $11 earlier today.  Panini has been bringing more and more to the table year after year with their annual low end set.  At 500 cards, the set won't be easy to complete - loaded with a variety of sub-sets and three parallels per card, it gets crazy.  But for a possible big bang at a low price, how can you not like it.

This year Brodeur is the face of the product; entering his final year of his contract - it's very well possible that this will be his final season of his record breaking career.

2010-11 Panini Donruss

Picked up a fat pack of 2010-11 Donruss on the cheap maybe a week ago; really like the look of these cards, pretty simple with decent photographs.

At 40 cards per pack I decided to post just my top 10 favorites from the rip.

Patrick Kane #107 - The first overall draft pick in the 2007 Entry Draft; arguably the best American born player in the league at the moment.

Pavel Datsyuk #45 - Now on to one of the most underrated players in the league, Pavel Datsyuk -  Datsyuk's cumulative GVT is 80.8, putting him third among skaters, behind Crosby (82.8) and Ovechkin (an incredible 108.7), even though he is only 10th in total points over that period. Datsyuk's value has always been as a two-way player, over the last four seasons Datsyuk is plus-103, second only to Ovechkin's plus-105.

Nathan Gerbe #182 - Gerbe is the shortest player in the NHL at 5'5" - which is basically the reason why I'm into him so much these days (I'm also just 5'5"). 

Joe Thornton #80 - Former first overall draft pick in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins - Joe remains a marquee player.

Rick Nash #49 - I'm convinced that if Nash was on a better team he would be putting up much higher numbers. 

Luke Schenn #168 - Fifth overall pick in the 2008 Draft and a key part of the Leaf's long-term future.

Thomas Vanek #121

Ed Jovanovski #113 - Added Jovanovski due to him being one of my favorite d-men when I was a kid, especially when he played for Team Canada - a team he has suited up for a total of seven times.

Dustin Brown #235

Tim Thomas / Boys Of Winter #59 - As you can tell, not the jersey version of these cards but I guess in these fat packs something of that sort doesn't come easy. Nice picture of Thomas in the Winter Classic gear nonetheless.

As for collecting, lately I've been attempting to organize my collection in plastic sheets, numerical order by sets and years.  It honestly feels like I'll never see the end of it - so many cards, especially from the junk wax era.  And when I have it all finished I have no idea where I'm going to find the space in my apartment to hold a dozen or more binders.

Other than that I've been working, same job - never received a call back after my interview from that previous job that I mentioned; I'm kinda happy that I didn't when I think about it.  I'm pretty stoked on heading back to post-secondary in January, I haven't been in a classroom environment in maybe over 6-7 years - hopefully it goes very well and I thoroughly enjoy it.  So during that time frame I figure that I'm going to have to slow down on the card collecting hobby.

2010-11 Pinnacle Want List

I finally got down to business and organized and bindered my collection of Pinnacle 2010-11 cards in numerical order; I also created a want list (included under the cut) so if anyone wanted to make a trade and help me out then be my guest, let me know and use the want list attached as a reference.

If anyone has any of these cards that are listed and would like to make a trade let me know, I'll have something packaged up and ready to mail off to you in no time.

2010-11 Pinnacle Value Packs Rip

By chance I'm getting pretty close to completing the set of Panini 2010-11 Pinnacle release; so I decided on a whim to pick up two of these value packs earlier in the week to help cut down the want list even further.

Out of the 80 cards that I unwrapped I only came up with three that I needed for my collection and another three parallels/inserts - one pack was literally a mirror of the other, exactly the same cards were included in each aside from a parallel.  I couldn't believe it, I wonder how they package these value packs.

2010-11 Pinnacle 10 Pack Break

As the latest release from Panini's Pinnacle brand starts to roll out I find myself breaking packs of the 2010-11 release that I picked up maybe a couple months ago.  Ten packs to be exact, that were stored away for some period of time in one of the boxes on my desk.  I decided that it was finally time to tear into them and see what they held; given that I'm sorta near to closing in on the set (minus those Ice Breaker rookies) these ten packs should help in bringing me even closer.

2010-11 Donruss

July has come and gone. 43 posts.  I've never posted on a blog as consistently as I have with this one; come to think of it, I've never kept a blog for any longer than a week or two.  Let's see if I can keep it up.

Another Wal-Mart grab; A three pack break of the latest Donruss 2010-11.

Pack 1

140 - Daniel Sedin. 41 goals and a total of 104 points last season.  Best base pull from the pack break.

115 - Martin St Louis.
115 - Corey Perry.

2010-11 Panini Hockey Adrenalyn

Bought a few packs of these 2010-11 Adrenalyn cards released by Panini after they caught my eye a few days ago.  They`re a cross between trading cards and Pokemon playing cards.  300 base cards, 30 `Ultimate` cards (1:23 Packs), 30 `Extra Signature` cards (1:8 Packs), 30 `Extra` cards (1:8 Packs) and 60 `Special` cards (1:2 Packs).  For 99 cents a pop, I say why not?

All the reverse sides have a code that you can enter and play online at Panini's Adrenalyn website; after opening the first two packs I signed up myself up and played a game against someone from Finland - Had no idea what I was doing and lost by a score of 6-1.

Sooo 6 packs, 6 cards per pack.  My 3 favorites from each pack break is shown.  Let`s see what they bring.

2010-11 Zenith Hockey

As I was passing the sports store this morning I went inside to test my luck on the newest 2010-11 Zenith cards.  I was kinda taken aback by the price and considered two packs of something else instead, but eventually gave in and purchased a pack anyway.  Personally I'm not sure if I can justify buying a single of this product.

Thanks to anyone who has linked back to my blog, I appreciate it muchly.  This has been fun and I hope you've been enjoying the run so far.  I've been making a few tweeks and have experienced some small setbacks in regards to a number of features such as the Linkedwithin widget, Rss feed and my Google Analytics account. Oy vey.

Very small update tonight since I've been busy with work, fiancee business and life in general.  As they say one is loneliest number and here is one very lonely pack of Score 2010-11.

2010-11 Pinnacle Box Break

I haven't been to the card shop in some time, so a Zellers pick-up will have to suffice.  Here are the results of a recent box break of 2010-11 Pinnacle, 8 packs 10 cards per pack.

I really enjoy the action shots on these cards and the base set doesn't seem too impossible to complete (200 cards), aside from the Ice Breakers sub-set which is a total of 50 cards; 20 of which are autographed parallels.

I really like the base set of these cards, there are a lot of very interesting looking shots on the front of the cards and the reverse includes a small paragraph long summary captioning the image.

2010-2011 Panini Hockey Album Stickers

Picked up two packs of these stickers on a trip to the dollar store.  I remember buying these as a kid at Sobeys and sticking them in the book numerical order.  I liked the retro cartoon series sets that Panini released as a kid and owned several; I wonder where they all went.

Here are my top 5 out of the 14 stickers.

Pavel Datsyuk.  I think this is suppose to be a Holographic Foil sort of sticker representing the teams star player - but I could be wrong, it looks like it could be some sort of parallel.

Tukka Rask.  My favorite backup goaltender in the leauge. He is going to make a great starter for a national team someday
