Dual Ryane Clowe PC Additions

Some unexpected mail awaited me when I got off work tonight; as it turned out it was a couple of Clowe cards that I had won off eBay several weeks ago that had gotten lost in my recent splurge of purchases, as well as in the back off my mind somewhere apparently.

2011-12 Limited Jumbo Materials Jersey Numbers Prime #24 - Ryane Clowe #ed/10

Another game used card to add to the PC; fact: I've yet to add an auto.  As for this card, being limited to just 10 copies I felt like I had to jump on it before it was too late.  With any cards with a limited pressing under 50 I always feel like if I don't get it now - well who knows, I might never see it again!  In retrospect it's most likely that I'll see it turn up again in the future.  Anyway long story short, bids were placed and in the end I was happily able to secure this one into my collection.

2011-12 Limited Materials #91 Ryane Clowe #ed/99

I've seen this one pop up online quite a few times since I've started my Clowe collection and have put it aside, saving my bidding dough on something else.  Mind you I search up Clowe cards on a daily basis, my watch list is sitting at about 85% Ryane Clowe material.  The card is numbered out of /99 and features a plain grey swatch.  I posted about the Prime version of this card in my last post. 

I've been fooling around with the blog, changed up the header and removed some unnecessary links from the sidebar.

Ryane Clowe PC Pick Ups

I've received a few new Ryane Clowe cards to add to the player collection over the past couple of weeks.  In addition to two base cards from the 2011-12 O-Pee-Chee and Score sets I also picked up a few more limited cards.

I'll start this post up with probably my favorite card I've yet to obtain for the PC; a Ryane Clowe 1/1 from the 2010-11 Panini Dominion set.  My first Ryane Clowe 1/1 and my first 1/1 card ever!  It's a black printing plate .  Although the left corner of the card is marked 'Laundry Tag', I've yet to see any memorabilia cards from Clowe rise it's head online from this Dominion set.

Big thanks to Paul from Cardboarded for aiding in the shipping process with this card - as the dealer would only ship within the United States, I had the card shipped to Paul's address and he was kind enough to receive it and include it with the cards from our recent trade.

The card is numbered 1/1 on the back giving it that true 1/1 feel.

Cards From Cardboarded

I've been neglecting the blog; just haven't been picking up much hockey stuff recently.  The TTM bug has bitten me again so I've been steady motivated to pen out as many letters as my right hand can handle.  And my other collecting hobbies have weaved in and out of my life lately.

I received my end of a trade with Paul over at Cardboarded earlier last week; I sent a few Jimmy Howard cards his way and in return he sent me a few Paul Kariya cards that he had kicking around.

He also helped me out in the delivery process of a Ryane Clowe card that I wanted but could only be shipped within the United States.  But I'll get to those goods in a later post.

My secondary player collection of Paul Kariya has been coming along fairly nicely - for a collection who I decided to put on the back burner several weeks ago I've still been picking up number 9 from time-to-time; I would estimate that I'm now nearing 300 Paul Kariya cards at the moment.

Ryane Clowe PC Mail Day + 2011-12 Panini Certified Pack Rips

I'm way to lazy to post an actual update on a few new pickups; I'm feeling slightly bummed over the fact that my car broke down in the parking lot outside the mall earlier today leading to it having to be towed to the garage - fingers crossed whatever is wrong with it is still covered under warranty.  I also have to work the graveyard shift tonight, at the moment I'm ready to tuck myself into bed and I haven't even started my shift yet.

Ryane Clowe - PC Progress Update

Since starting my Ryane Clowe player collection a couple of weeks ago I've added quite a few new cards to my project.  By the numbers, I've increased my amount of Clowe cards from 9 to 25 (26 if you include the unredeemed redemption card I picked up) in hand.

Taking a page from the book of CardBoarded I decided to take a snapshot of my progress:

Just to clarify a few cards in the above photo; the third Upper Deck card is an Exclusive #d/100 and the two 2011-12 O-Pee-Chee cards near the bottom right are the Rainbow and Black Rainbow parallels - I'm still looking for the regular base card in the set to complete that rainbow.  Although I'd like to feature the majority of the new additions in this blog post, it's way too early in the morning to go on a scanning spree so I figured I would just post my 'biggest' card in the project thus far.

Logan Couture, Ryane Clowe and Joe Thornton

Two color swatches from the starting three players of the Sharks.  In my opinion Clowe has the nicest piece on this card, I'm guessing that it's a cut from the home jersey collar.  There's also a one color swatch version and a Prime Patches version of this card unnumbered and #d to /25 accordingly - snatched myself one of each of those as well, just waiting for them to arrive.

The 2011-12 Panini Certified jersey and auto redemption card should be nice as well, if it ever arrives!  It's my second time applying for a redemption card; the previous account would be the 2011-12 Upper Deck Artifacts card that I applied for over the telephone many moons ago, on the first day of the Artifacts release to be exact.  Still haven't heard a peep from them or received my card.  I really hope that this redemption actually turns into something, until then I'll be impatiently waiting near the mailbox.

Ryane Clowe Player Collection

Dedication to a Paul Kariya player collection has waned away rather quickly; I realized that there's just too much stuff - stuff I'll never have, stuff I'll never see and stuff I'd never be able to unload that kind of money on.  There's also already many Paul Kariya PCs out there and some really really good ones.  But I still love the idea of player collecting and think the chase and adventure would be fun, so without further ado I've already began another collection, Ryane Clowe of the San Jose Sharks - a fellow native of Newfoundland.

This guy is tough as nails and can score.  He's also been a vital force in the Sharks lineup since his rookie season.

I've started a database and have uploaded what I currently have in my collection; yeah I know - right now it's looking pretty weak, weighing in at just 8 base cards and a sticker; but things will get better.  You can check out the status and the database of uploaded cards in my collection by clicking here or on the link to the right sidebar.

Maybe once I get further into collecting Clowe I'll branch off onto other Newfoundland players in the league; but one thing at a time.

Mail Day! Paul Kariya 1997-98 Upper Deck McDonalds Game Film # F6

Ya know, I haven't received a card in the mail for quite some time.  I was surprised that this one arrived so fast when I found it in the mailbox this morning.

Picked up another Kariya to add to the player collection later last week.  This card is from the annual (since cancelled) 1997-98 McDonald's Upper Deck release; "Game Film" was randomly inserted into packs, each featuring a design similar to a strip of film.  As I can remember these cards were heavily sought-after back then and they still hold their value these days.

Couldn't find anything special in relation to the date printed on the card aside from the fact that the Mighty Ducks played the Vancouver Canucks that night and lost in overtime.

Paul Kariya PC Pickups

I just want to state that there is an unbelievable amount of Paul Kariya out there, unbelievable.  Since starting my player collection I've made an attempt at gathering what I've already accumulated through collecting and ordered a few cards online.  I didn't know the demand for Paul Kariya was still so high; I think I ended up in a bidding war during every card I placed a bid on.

But anyway it's been fun so far and I've found myself daily searching Kariya and drooling over cards I wish I had for my PC; someday.  I'll try and keep in mind the advice some of you had shared when I began this project, "It's not a race".

Anyway I picked up a few cards to add to the collection from the local shop earlier this morning, the guy gave me 50% off on them so I ended up spending my allotted $10.

Hull / Kariya / Bure 1995-96 Donruss Dominators #6 #d 1850/5000 - This was my favorite card from the pickup, featuring Hull, Kariya and Bure.  I was never really a Hull fan but Kariya and Bure were two of my favorites growing up.  It's serial numbered on the back out of a hefty 5000 by the way.

Paul Kariya 2000-01 Upper Deck Ice Rink Favorites #FP1 - An insert from the early 2000s Upper Deck Ice series, Ice Rink Favorites.  I like the look of those Mighty Duck sweaters but the unique unpopular "Wild Wing" jerseys are still my personal favorite.  The card is slighty see-through at the top, nice card.

Paul Kariya 1999-00 Topps Premier Plus Premier Team #PT1 - Topps Premier Plus, hrm never heard of this set before.  Cool looking card with the Mighty Duck logo in the background - the card has a textured feel to it that you can sorta see from the scan.  Got it for a buck, had to pick it up.

 

Paul Kariya 2000-01 Upper Deck SP Authentic Parent's Scrapbook PS1 - Parent's Scrapbook?  Alright.  Card is made to resemble a notebook and a faded photograph of a young Paul Kariya with the current Kariya in the foreground.  The back features a quote from Paul's mom Sharon mentioning how he always wanted to play with the big boys and how he always liked to share the puck.

And that was all she wrote for this Wednesday morning.  It's coming along.

On a personal note, I have an appointment to have my wisdom teeth (all four) removed via oral surgery on Friday, not looking forward to it at all.  Have any of you guys had your wisdom teeth removed, share your experiences!

Paul Kariya Player Collection Starting Line

I've been admiring everyones 'player collections' recently - so much that it has sparked an interest inside me to make an attempt at starting my own.  Card collecting wise, starting my own 'player collection' has been the only thing that has been on my mind recently.

As you all can assume from the picture posted above (and title of this blog post), my player collection will be focused around the trading card career of my second favorite all-time player, Paul Kariya.  What a gem this guy was; just wish he hadn't skated his way down career ending, post-concussion syndrome alley.  My hockey fantasy dream was to see him suit up with the Penguins one day.

• How do you store your 'personal collection'?  Does it have it's own binder?  How about top-loaders; do you store them seperate from your others?

 Guess I'll go sort through my card collection and get a head start gathering up Kariya cards!
