2009-10 Upper Deck Champ's Break

Hello all.  I've been working on a few bells and whistles for the blog, if you take a look to your right you'll see an example of an incomplete example of what I'm referring to.  I was getting somewhat tired of the massive amount of text links that hugged the sidebar and figured trying something that might be a little more visibly appealing.

Speaking of visibly appealing, I recently purchased a blaster of 2009-10 Upper Deck Champ's at a local flea market for a discounted price.  I love the look of these cards so much, so much that they rank pretty high up there on a my favorite card designs of all time list.

Pack 1

Wayne Gretzky #70 - A very nice way to start out a break; by scoring a card of the Great One.

Denis Savard #23 - Something about this Champ's set that I like would be the inclusion of Hall of Famers, here's Denis Savard - Savard even had his own trademark move, the 'Savardian Spin-o-rama' - if you haven't seen it before then I advise you to YouTube it.

Bobby Clarke #75- This pack was all abut the Hall of Famers, here's another one; the great Bobby Clarke.

Jeff Carter / Mini #272 - I could do without these minis and go for another base per pack.  Not to mention the mini set is huge and you get just one per pack.

Pack 2

Dale Hawerchuk #100 - Here is a beautiful red parallel card of Hawerchuk in a Jets uniform, red parallels are apparently 1:10 packs.

Pekka Rinne #59
Marty Turco #35

Galapagos Islands / Wonders of the World Mini #414 - Not feeling the minis even if the card features one of the great Wonders of the World.

Pack 3

Thomas Vanek #13 - Yellow parallels come in at an odds of every 1:20, not bad for a 12 pack blaster.

Lanny McDonald #91 - Lanny looking bad ass in a Leafs jersey!

Zach Parise #62
Kris Chucko / Mini Rookie  #148

Pack 4

Joe Thornton #84
Ilya Kovalchuk #4
Shane Doan #79
Alexandre Burrows / Mini #368

Pack

Jason Arnott #60

Jordan Staal / Champ's Threads #MT-ST - Here's my hit from the blaster break; these Mini Threads come 1:9 and I'm pretty satisfied with who I pulled.  I noticed that I don't have any Staal game used threads so this will sit nicely in my collection.

Pack 6

Evgeni Malkin #82
Niklas Backstrom #54
Michael Frolik #48
Derek Peltier / Mini Rookie #121

Pack 7

Bobby Clarke #75 - My second Bobby Clarke from the box rip :/

Jari Kurri #43 - This Kurri card might be my favorite from the base that I've yet to see. Very 80s retro.

Alex Delvecchio #41
Jody Shelley #373

Pack 8

Mark Messier #66
Bobby Hull #25
Ryan Smyth #51

Montanoceratops / Natural History Collection #458 - Again, not diggin' these Minis; although I am actually looking for a Mini from this Natural History Collection set to own ... Gros Morne National Park, it's a National Park located here in Newfoundland which now also has it's own Mini trading card as part of this set courtesy of Upper Deck and Champ's.  It's been slightly difficult to track it down.

Pack 9

Steven Stamkos #89 - Solid pack.  Stamkos and Leetch and eh! even the Mini card wasn't so bad this time around.  As for Souray, he spent last season in the AHL with the Hershey Bears.

Brian Leetch #71
Sheldon Souray #47
Ilya Bryzgalov #324

Pack 10

Scotty Bowman #56 - Even Bowman is included in this short set, Champ's sure didn't miss anyone.

Eric Staal #19
Brad Richards #33
Saurolophus / Natural History Collection #436

Pack 11

Bobby Orr #10
Pekka Rinne #59
Ryan Kesler #95
Brian Gionta #254

Pack 12

Anze Kopitar #50 - And we go out with Kopitar which isn't so bad, Wheeler and a double of Turco.

Blake Wheeler #8
Marty Turco #35
Dustin Brown #364

  1. I love this set as well, and the 08-09 Champ's set isn't half bad either. I've needed just 1 card to finish for the longest time now, the Brian Leetch you pulled in pack 9. If you end up with an extra to trade let me know!

  2. Sure I can send you the Leetch so you can complete your set, I also have this Nolan Ryan 1991 Pacific card set #1-110 you might like that I've wanted to send you (if you don't have it already). Just send me your mailing address to cardsfromthecrease(at)gmail.com

  4. Sure, I'm willing to trade it. And thanks for the heads up about the parallels, I knew there was something different about them! Ha

  5. Nice cards. I'll second your advice on Savard and add that he's a class guy as well.
